Open call: Modes of Organizing – Study trip to Ghana

Join Center for Practice-based Art Studies (PASS) in February 2026 for a week-long study trip to Ghana through Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale, exploring how artists, curators, activists, and cultural workers in Ghana reimagine and reshape the infrastructures of art and community life.

Under the theme of Modes of Organizing, we will visit independent art spaces, collectives, and grassroots initiatives that engage with artistic production, curatorial experimentation, and communal sustainability. From urban performance hubs in Accra to collaborative research centers in Kumasi and expansive artist-led projects in Tamale, the trip offers immersive encounters with critical and creative models of self-organization, care, and resistance. Tailored for PhD students, artists, curators, and scholars, this journey invites reflections on how art can generate inspirational social forms and invite new modes of knowing – while engaging with how encounters between practices rooted in different geographies and genealogies can generate mutual insight.

PASS will cover travel and accommodation expenses for a total of 15 participants with backgrounds in artistic practice, curatorial research, museum related work, academic research or other practices within the field of art. Participants will be selected with a view to ensuring professional diversity in the composition of the group and on the basis of a written application to PASS. The application must describe how you work with the theme of the study trip, Modes of Organizing.
